- License plate billing: Cameras photograph the vehicle's license plate so the toll can be associated with the registered vehicle owner.

2. Texas Has Multiple Toll-Road Operators
One reason Texas toll billing can seem complicated is that there isn't one organization operating every toll road in the state.
Texas toll facilities are operated by a combination of state agencies, regional mobility authorities, county toll authorities, and other operators.
Major operators include:
- TxDOT — Texas Department of Transportation
- CTRMA — Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority, which operates several Austin-area toll facilities
- NTTA — North Texas Tollway Authority

After toll transactions reach us, we match them to the rental period during which they occurred.
4. Why Toll Charges Can Arrive After Your Rental
Toll transactions don't always appear immediately.
Texas has multiple toll-road operators and interconnected billing systems. Transactions sometimes have to move between those systems before reaching the account associated with the vehicle.
In other situations, a transaction may be processed using the vehicle's license plate.
Because of this, some toll charges may not reach Bat City Rentals until days or even weeks after your rental has ended.
If you receive a toll charge after returning your vehicle, it doesn't necessarily mean the toll was recently incurred. It may simply have taken additional time for the toll operator to report and process the transaction.
5. Toll Roads vs. Free Routes in Austin
You don't always have to use a toll road.

9. Simple, Transparent Toll Billing
We don't believe renters should be surprised by large daily toll-access fees or unexplained administrative charges.
Our toll policy is straightforward:
- No daily toll-access fee
- No separate toll administration surcharge
- You pay the actual toll charges associated with your rental
- A 3.8% payment-processing fee is added when toll charges are collected electronically
The 3.8% processing fee helps cover the cost of processing the toll payment rather than building those costs into a larger daily toll-access or administrative fee.
Because some toll agencies report transactions later than others, tolls may occasionally be billed separately after your rental has ended.
When that happens, we'll match the tolls to the appropriate rental period and collect the toll amount plus the disclosed payment-processing fee.
